How to choose children’s music?

I came across Our favorite children’s music while I was surfing the Internet this morning. The article revealed that children actually enjoy music as much as parents do. Some children want “bedtime singing sessions” before they sleep, a friend of mine sings the whole song book every night to get her son to sleep!

Some very famous children songs are “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, “Puff the Magic Dragon”, “London Bridge”, “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and “Rock a Bye Baby”.

Mommy, I Can’t Sleep highlights some important points when you are getting your children music CDs; songs should be:

  • Delightful tunes that children know and love
  • Birds, animals, nature sounds blend in well with the music
  • Music is slow and relaxing
  • Easy to recognize songs – simplicity, repetition, predictability, symmetry, consistency and emotion in the human voice

Some music that Our favorite children’s music recommended are:

    1. Til Their Eyes Shine (Sony Music)
    2. Daddies Sing Goodnight (Sugar Hill Records)
    3. Happiness Cake, by Linda Arnold (A&M Records)
    4. Rainbow Sign (Rounder Records)
    5. Sleep, Baby, Sleep, by Nicolette Larson (Sony Music)
    6. Wee Sing Sing-Alongs (Price Stern Sloan)
    7. Baby Beluga, by Raffi (MCA Records)
    8. Diddy Bop Dinosaur, by Gary Lapow (Springboard Records)
